Kinky Boots the Musical is now running at London’s Adelphi Theatre!
Based on the 2005 British-American film of the same name, Kinky Boots the musical tells the same story of an English Midlands shoe factory. The story focuses on Charlie Price, a wannabe London high flyer who, to his dismay, inherits his father’s beloved business and feels he needs to salvage the company. With the help of a Soho cross drag queen, Charlie aims to revolutionize the face of cross gender footwear! (Read the full story on my Synopsis and Songs page!)
The original Broadway production of Kinky Boots was created by singer songwriter Cyndi Lauper, writer Harvey Fierstein and director Jerry Mitchell. Kinky Boots marked Lauper’s debut as a Musical Theatre Songwriter.
In it’s opening year on Broadway, Kinky Boots won a commendable 6 Tony Awards, including the prestigious award for Best New Musical. To find out about all of the awards the show has won, visit my awards page.
Kinky Boots first opened in a pre-Broadway tryout at the Bank of America Theatre in Chicago on the 2nd October 2012. After a bit of tweaking, the show made its Broadway transfer and opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on the 4th April 2013. The show confirmed a London Transfer at the Adelphi Theatre for 2015, opening for previews on the 22nd August with Press Night on the 15th September.
